WOMEN'S CRICKET - Storm clouds gather to deny Hawarden a victory
HAWARDEN came within a whisker of clinching victory in their Cheshire Women's League match against Werneth.
A thunderstorm ended play at Hawarden with the match six overs away from being decided on faster scoring rate with Werneth on 36-1 after 14 overs in reply to Hawarden Park's 170-8.
Natalie Heap hit 86 and Danni Crook chipped in with 30, while Chloe Withers took 3-31.
Hawarden Park, from the second division, celebrated victory in their Twenty20 Cup match against top flight opponents Appleton Tigers.
Park made 80-5, with both Dawn Prestidge and Shami Ahmed, in her first game since joining the club, both reaching 20. Tigers could only manage 59 in reply, their wickets tumbling once openers Emma Barlow (22) and Amy Page (20) had retired, with Danni Oates taking the season's first hat-trick in her first ever game of cricket.
Crucially Barlow and Page were unable to return to the crease as their side could not field a full complement of players.
