All roads will lead to Chester racecourse on Sunday for their popular Family Fun Day meeting, writes ARTHUR SHONE.
The gates open at 8.00am with a crowd of 45,000 expected after the success of their their first ever Sunday Fun Day last year.

Tickets are available in all three enclosures with a special offer in the County concourse enclosure as Richard Thomas, Chester racecourse's chief executive explained .

He said: "We always look forward to this event every year. It's always a great days racing and the family fun element adds to the relaxed nature,as the people of Chester enjoy the start of summer with a great fun day out in historic surroundings.

"To make it even more special we are offering 2 for 1 on all County Concourse badges purchased this Sunday."

There is decent prize money of £91,000 on offer on the six race card, and also a very good entry at the four day stage.

Chester based clerk of the course Ed Gretton lists the going as Good, which should ensure plenty of runners at the Cheshire course.

Racing comes under starters orders at 2.20pm with the British Heart Foundation EBF Maiden Stakes.

Mick Channon's charge Arabian Flame made an eye catching debut at Newbury when finishing third to Patricia's Glory. The Kings Best colt will come on leaps and bounds from that race.

The obvious danger is the Mark Johnston trained Crackdown, who finished runner up to Rileyskeepingfaith at Newmarket last time out. If absent Flintlock from the John Gosden yard will be my revised selection.

The Cheshire County Council Foster Nursery can go to the Jim Boyle trained Red Baron Dancer, who was bought by Boyle out of a claimer from Dandy Nicholls yard for ten grand.

That was a shrewd move as he bolted up at this course last month by three and a quarter lengths from Titus Andronicus and the Fram gelding is taken to go in again.

The feature race on the card is the £44,000 Childrens Adventure Farm Listed Queensferry Stakes over six furlongs.

If the Saeed Bin Surour filly Florist lines up to face the starter, she will go very close as she won all three of her starts last season, the last one at Doncaster last October.

I would recommend a saver on the Karl Burke trained Ashayson, a winner of a decent listed race at Doncaster earlier in the season.

Horses For Courses certainly applies to the Mark Brisbourne trained mare Prelude, who has won four races at the Roodee – her last win came earlier in the month when she beat Sir Sandicliff by a length and a quarter.

She races off her highest mark of 92 in the Alexander Events Handicap, and can go in again at the expense of stable mate Cheshire Prince.

Richard Price does well with his horses at the Roodee and his charge Barons Spy (Nap) is taken to land the Halliwell Jones BMW Handicap.

My selection beat The Kiddykid readily at this course in June, he hated the very testing conditions at Haydock last time out and looks a good thing back at Chester on decent ground. Goodbye Mr Bond from the Eric Alston yard is taken for a place

The last race is the Family Funday handicap over a mile and a quarter, which sees Richard Fahey's runner Deep Water going for the four timer, and despite a 6lb penalty remains a step ahead of the handicapper.

I would advise an each way saver on the Mark Tompkins trained Bowder Stone.
