GOLF: Charity boosted by Ian's big day
IAN SMITH saw a big turn-out for his Captain's Day at HOLYWELL.
A total of £1,025 was donated to his nominated charity, Breast Cancer, and pink was the colour theme of the day as demonstrated by Jason Jones, professional Matt Parsley, the captain, Mel Petrie, Stan Lowe, Simon Bailey, and Colin Jones.
The overall winner was Hugh Wrench with 43 points, and other prizewinners included Peter Lewis and Flora Davies (Mixed); Helena Rowley (Ladies); Simon Rowley (Visitors); Barry Lloyd (Division Three winner); Anthony Goundrey (Division One winner); and Howard Fisher (Division Two winner).
The Ladies section held a Strawberry Tea at the clubhouse and in the space of two hours raised the sum of £922 towards the same charity.

Eva Barnes Trophy - Winner: Lorraine Redman 88-15-73; runner Up: Lauren Stanfield 89-15-74.
Juniors Kimberly Clarke (round 2) - Winner: Chris Pearce 24-18-68; runner up: Liam Reed 3-18-73.
Tim Saunders and Anthony Goundrey beat Camarthen 4 and 3 for a place in the semi finals of the 2008 Victory Shied Foursomes to be held at Royal Porthcawl, against Haverfordwest, on Tuesday, July 29.
Captain Ian Smith and professional Matt Parsley finished second with six under par in the 2008 Gulf air international Pro-Captain Challenge.
Holywell team of four winners: Paul Newton, Dave Andrew, Tim Saunders, and Roy Appleton.
Runners up: Phil Johnson, Jack Johnson, Dave Macalea, and John Macquire.

Rob Northern won the PLASSEY OAKS seniors Bogey Competition with plus 2, ahead of second placed Ken Harrison on level par.
A competition sponsored by club member, Ken Crawford, was won by Peter Vaughan with 20 points, while John Lloyd was second with 17 points, and Peter Cowley finished third with 16 points.
The nearest the pin and longest drive prizes were won by Gary Branton.
Saturday's Club Competition was won by Ian Lockhart with a score of 41 points.
