CRICKET: Park in the clear after ninth win
CHESTER AND DISTRICT MIDWEEK LEAGUE –Hawarden Park took advantage of Barrow A's rained off encounter with Ashton Hayes to open up a three point lead at the top of Division One of Chester & District Midweek Cricket League.
Ian Martin struck 61 as Park posted 134-5 against hosts Gwersyllt.
In response, Gwersyllt struggled to 98-6 as Park made it nine wins from 11 games this season.
Wrexham Hospitals continued their bad form with defeat at Bunbury.
The away side scored a lowly 80-8 before Bunbury eased to 81-3 and took the two points.
The other match saw Boughton Hall clinch a walkover as Bromborough Paints failed to raise a side.
G Jones hit an undefeated 53 as Legal Eagles defeated Waverton by nine wickets in Division Two.
Waverton made 118-7 before Jones led Legal Eagles to 119-1.
J Salisbury claimed 1-1 from five overs as Llay Welfare saw off Backford Hall by nine wickets.
Hall struggled to 67-5 after Salisbury's economical display and Llay made light work of reaching the winning total.
Northop Hall stay joint top after beating Saughall by seven wickets.
Saughall posted 107-5 before Hall made 108-3.
Christleton Lions maintained their place at the summit of Division Two with a five wicket triumph over Castell Alun who set a lowly 71-4 before Lions crawled to 72-5.
C Beesley smashed a brutal unbeaten 117 as Harry Graves defeated Division Three bottom club Mynydd Isa by 129 runs.
Beesley led from the front to help Graves post 225-2 before Isa were bowled out for 96.
T Jones struck 64 as Northop defeated Carlton Tavern by 94 runs.
Jones top scored in the away side's 170-3, while Tavern slumped to 76-4 in response.
Growhow (73-1) completed a nine wicket win over Bromborough (71-9) in the other match of the evening.
R Morrissey blasted an undefeated 87 for Castrol but his side still fell to defeat at Academicals in Division Four. G Solomon (57) led Academicals to a competitive 165-6 before restricting Castrol to just 125-5.
Halkyn beat visitors Burton to record a sixth victory of the season.
The away side were bowled out for just 84 with Halkyn reaching the 87 needed having lost six wickets.
The other matches in the division saw Eastham Crossbatters (75-2) beat bottom club Royal Oak (71-8) and Tarpoley (114-3) overcome Frodsham (111-7).
Dipak Jena was the star of the show for Castle Square Cutters as they defeated Saightonians by 16 runs in Division Five.
Jena recorded an unbeaten 54 from Cutters 105-6 before the Saightonians slumped to 89-6 from their 20 overs.
Mill Brow cruised to a ten wicket victory over Outlaws in the other completed match of the division. Outlaws made a dismal 49 all out and could only watch on as Mill eased to 51-0.
The other matches of the division saw West Cheshire College claim a walkover after Corus failed to raise a side, while Airbus and Little Oak Taverners shared a point each due to rain.
Connah's Quay increased their lead at the top of Division Six with a nine wicket success over HSBC Chester.
Chester scored a below average 103-8 before Quay reached the winning line with just one wicket down.
Wirral (77-1) defeated Dodleston (76) in the other completed match of the week.
City Bar and Manor Athletic both claimed two points after The Fields
and Shotton respectively both failed to raise a side.
Grange Old Boys defied their bottom of Division Seven status with a 107 run victory over Heberians.
N Brimble hit 73 as Grange posted an above par 192-5 before P Bettridge took 4-25 to leave the hosts 85 all out.
Maritime stayed a point clear of Kingsley Knights with a three run success over third placed Buckley.
P Bradfield bowled superbly to take 4-15 and restrict the away side to just 93. In reply, Buckley fell agonisingly short of the finishing post, ending 90-5.
Kingsley Knights saw off Maeshafn by 38 runs in the other match of the division.
Knights posted 164-5 while the home side were restricted to just 126-5.
