MINOR COUNTIES - FREDDIE OWEN and Rick Moore helped Cheshire A register their first win of the season after a solid team performance against Yorkshire Academy.
Owen, Chester Boughton Hall's opening batsman, and Christleton's Rick Moore, were part of a Cheshire side determined to perform having had two matches abandoned this year because of rain.

And the county second-string skippered by Nick Cantello did exactly that - a 111 runs victory the reward for their combined efforts as the weather stayed fine.

Having lost the toss and been asked to bat Cheshire batted well and posted an imposing 244-6 from 50 overs.

Openers Jonny Kettle and Ollie Sadler shared a first wicket partnership of 72, before Kettle was dismissed for 72.

Nantwich's Sadler, the current Oxfordshire University captain, then starred in a second wicket partnership of 71 with Chester Boughton Hall's Freddie Owen, the current Cambridge University captain.

Owen was out for 43 and Sadler top-scored with 68 as Cheshire pushed on towards the 200 mark. In reply, Yorkshire were bowled out for 133.

Next up for Cheshire is a one-day clash with Staffordshire on Thursday, July 31, at Audley Cricket Club, followed by their last game of the season, also a one-day match, against North Wales CA on Tuesday, August
12, at Malpas Cricket Club.

* Opener Warren Goodwin makes a welcome return to the Cheshire side gunning to win back-to-back Minor Counties Championship titles.

The Chester Boughton Hall batsman played a key role in Cheshire's 2008 title triumph, but has been missing for the last two three-day county clashes.

But having last played in his county's impressive victory over Wales Minor Counties at Chester towards the end of June, Goodwin is back and looking to make an impression.

Cheshire face bottom of the table Herefordshire at Eastnor Cricket Club in their penultimate match of the season this weekend with a slender five point lead over fellow title-chasers Berkshire.
