CRICKET: Boughton Hall's good run comes to an end
CHESHIRE COUNTY LEAGUE - CHESTER BOUGHTON HALL slumped to their first defeat in seven against third-placed Nantwich.
Steve Ogilby won the toss for Chester and put the visitors in but his bowlers struggled against Chris Simpson and Rob Howell.
It took the introduction of Alex Kegg to eventually get the breakthrough when he had Howell snapped up at short leg by Ollie Law.
Chris Simpson and Ray Doyle added 130 for the third wicket as the Chester bowlers toiled. Eventually Kegg trapped Simpson for 97.
Kegg was now bowling at his best, the 40 year old already having 44 wickets to his name this season, chasing last season's champion haul of 50.
South African Justin Granger hit 12 before Law had him caught and he claimed his second wicket at the death when Doyle was caught on the boundary for 89. Kegg finished with 3-89 and Law 2-32 as Nantwich declared on 262-5.
Chester found themselves up against it almost immediately as Daron Cruickshank (0) was well caught and Jim Gillson (1) followed soon after.
Despite these setbacks, Steve Ogilby and Eddie Roberts began to build a decent stand. Ogilby eventually fell for 49 but when Warren Goodwin went to the next ball, the home side were reeling.
Jimmy Warrington claimed Freddie Owen (7) as his fifth wicket and the dismissal of Matt Griffiths (16), was his sixth victim.
Eddie Roberts (52) tried to steady the ship, but Tom Ducker, and Law fell before Kegg put up the shutters.
A draw seemed possible as Roberts and Kegg used up eight valuable overs with Roberts progressing to 99 and Kegg 17.
But then with just two and a half overs remaining, disaster struck as Warrington came back and had Kegg caught in the slips to leave him with 8-94 and opener Roberts one short of what would have been a well earned ton. His 99 included three sixes and 12 fours from 141 balls as Chester were bowled out for 206.
CHRISTLETON drew in their Division One match against Cheadle.
Cheadle racked up 205 for 6 declared off their 50 overs before Christleton skipper, Paul Allen, top-scored with 60 not out.
Christleton pocketed eight points from the match, and Cheadle claimed 11 points.
