ATHLETICS: Teamwork pays off for North Walians

ATHLETES from Wrexham and Deeside teamed up in great style to beat rivals Cheshire Tigers.
Members from the two clubs combined to clinch a team win for North Wales in the final round of the National Junior Under-20 Track and Field League Mersey Division, held at Deeside Stadium.

Phil Edge (9:33.2) and Steve McCormack (10:36.7) finished first and second in the 3,000m, while Adam Williams (13.15m) and Tom Snowdon (11.57m) doubled up for victories in the triple jump.

Hannah Pendlebury (26.0) and Emma Roberts (27.9) secured maximum points from the 200m, and Rebecca Nuttall posted a winning 400m time of 63.3 seconds.

Alex Elliott won the javelin competition with a best throw of 21.61m, and finished second in the long jump with 4.84m, while Amy Hankinson won the triple jump with 9.65m, and Patricia Byrne negotiated the 400m hurdles in a time of 76.2 seconds for second position.

Jenna Sherratt finished second in both shot (9.37m) and discus (28.28m), and Alex Dean won both the B 400m hurdles (69.5 seconds) and B 2,000m steeplechase (8:41.6).

David McArdle finished second in the discus with a best throw of 19.76m, while Scott Roberts (third with 1-60m) and Lewis Myatt (first with 1-55m) competed in the high jump.

Cynan Evans secured second place in the 400m with a time of 51.0 seconds.

The quartet of Emma Roberts, Alex Elliott, Rebecca Nuttall, and Hannah Pendlebury won the 4x100m relay for North Wales in a time of 53.1 seconds.

Adam Williams, Scott Roberts, Cynan Evans, and Daniel Burton combined to win the men's North Wales team the 4x100m race in 48.1 seconds.

The foursome of David McArdle, Callum Bennett, Lewis Myatt, and Thomas Snowdon earned North Wales second place in the 4x400m relay with a time of three minutes 53.5 seconds.

Sian Kelman catapulted herself to an award-winning display at Deeside.

The West Cheshire AC member competed for Cheshire Tigers and won the Athlete of the Match Award for her impressive leap of 5.61m in the long jump.

Sian also demonstrated her pace to good effect when winning the 100m in a time of 12.6 seconds, alongside B 100m winner, Sam Galley, who posted 12.9 seconds.

Danny Meadows produced an impressive sprint finish on his way to a new personal best of two minutes 5.6 seconds and victory in the 800m.

Tom Booth recorded three new personal bests, including a 400m hurdles victory of 60.9 seconds, a 110m hurdles win of 18.7 seconds, and a new 2,000m steeplechase best of 7:41.4 for third position.

Jack Titlow (24.97m) and Alan Littler (14.29m) produced a double success story from the discus cage, and Alan rounded the B 400m in a new best of 60.5 seconds.

Kate Titlow won the 3,000m in a time of 10 minutes 43.2 seconds, while Shona Valentine completed the 200m in a time of 27.4 seconds for second position.

Lauren Hunt secured first place in the discus with a throw of 35.28m, and added top spot in the shot with a winning put of 9.50m.

The Cheshire Tigers 4x100m relay squad of Lewis Emmitt, Liam Clowes, Tom Booth and Jack Titlow finished third in a time of 51.5 seconds.

MATCH RESULT: 1 North Wales 348 points; 2 Cheshire Tigers 231; 3 Liverpool Pembroke Sefton 160; 4 St Helens Sutton 117; 5 Wirral 61; 6 Southport Waterloo 0.
