ANGLING: Randles can handle the pressure
DAVE RANDLES started the week in great style with victory at the Lake of Tranquillity, writes MARTIN POWELL.
His carp-based bumper bag of 51lb 4oz was enough to beat Les Picken, who weighed in with 45lb 15oz, with Steve Openshaw third on 38lb 13oz.
Thursday saw Andy Amos win the day with a carp net of 90lb 14oz. Steve Norman was second with a similar net for 81lb 10oz, leaving fishery owner, Chris Openshaw in third with 43lb 4oz.
John Mainwaring took the coin on the Sunday open with a chub and carp net off the horseshoe to return 43lb 1oz. Les Picken was again second with 41lb 5oz and Mark Boulton was third with 31lb 2oz.
Ray Williams led the field at the Offa's Dyke Wednesday open with a crucian and roach net for 20lb 6oz. Ray Haynes was returned second with 19lb 12oz leaving Nigel Davies in third with his 13lb 4oz return.
Mike Ellis netted his way to a win at the Wednesday Open at Buckley with a skimmer and roach based net of 15lb 5oz. Graham Davidson was second with a mixed bag for 14lb 3oz. Lionel Edison latched onto carp and a few bits for third place with 8lb 6oz.
Sunday saw the lads in action on the lake of Tranquillity where John Porter won the day with a carp based 38lb 14oz. Matthew Powell took the coin for second with 27lb 8oz, with Matthew Carroll in third place with his carp net of 23lb 6oz.
Ian Hughes netted his way to a win at the Thursday Open at Wepre Park in the Connah's Quay match, bringing a level 30lb to the scales. Mark Gratton was second with 21lb 8oz, with Darren Frost in third place with a level 18lb.
On the Bridgewater canal, Kevin Thornton netted his way to win with a carp for 6lb 4oz. Paul Cooke was second with 5lb 14oz, leaving Frankie Dorran in third place with 5lb 10oz.
Moss Valley fished on the match pool at Milton Green where Martin Churchill netted his way to a win with 54lb 2oz of carp. Phil Prescott took a similar net for second place, returning 44lb 8oz. Mike Butler was third placed on the day with 25lb 6oz.
Flint travelled to the Shroppie where Paul Saville won the day with roach to return 3lb 2oz.
Mike Ellis took his second frame of the week, returning 2lb 10oz, with John Breeze returned third with 2lb 2oz.
Mickle Trafford Fly-fishers travelled to Ty Mawr Reservoir where George Mitchell won the match with a brace of rainbows for 3lb 2oz.
Richard Roberts and John Chamberlain were tied for second place with a brace for 2lb 5oz.
Mick Powell won the day at the latest St Teresa's match fished out on Cheshire Pool 5 where he netted 48lb 8oz of carp. Liaf Roberts was second placed on the day with 43lb 10oz. Dave Meaney was third with 43lb 12oz.
Grosvenor fished out their latest match on the Serpentine where Brian Summerville took the coin with 5lb 6oz of tench and rudd. Ron Evans was second placed on the day with 2lb 8oz of rudd, with Norman Cadman in third place with another rudd based 1lb 1oz.
The Rike and Pikel fished out their latest match on Weston Pools where Paul Edwards netted his way to a win with a carp based 24lb. John Tyreman was second with 17lb 8oz. Dave Stewart closed out the frame, and the weeks action for third place with 14lb 8oz.
The Champion of Wales sea-angling final in Pwllheli saw North Walian Dewi Hughes beat off the challenge of former World Champion Alan Price to win the event.
The Home internationals fished at Dover saw good results for the Welsh squads, finishing first in the with the youth team section, second in the junior team and fourth with the seniors.
WATER REPORTS
Graig Llwyd Springs: John Smedgley, from Queensferry, landed a 14.75lb rainbow on a white fritz; Peter Brown, of Denbigh, hooked 12lb and 10lb rainbows using a damsel fly.
Hillview Fishery: Steve Bruce, Bayston Hill 16 fish taken on a traffic light buzzer; Bob Walker Wem eight fish taken on a hares ear nymph.
