LONG-AWAITED plans for Chester's Odeon Cinema have been swiftly withdrawn by miffed applicants.

The Leader revealed last week that South Yorkshire-based nightclub specialists, The Brook Group, had lodged a full planning proposal for the city centre Odeon which included room for a 200-seat cinema.

The application had been filed with the city council planning department by the renowned Donald Insall Associates group, but had not been formally registered as there were some technical difficulties before it could be validated.

Now, in a letter to city planners, Tony Barton, of Donald Insall Associates Ltd, wrote: "Our clients are upset that their applications have been leaked to the local press prior to formal registration.

"We confirm our clients now wish not to proceed with the current application and request that you return their cheque to this office."

A council planning department spokesman said once an application is submitted it is public property.
