A watchdog is investigating the death of a biker following a police pursuit in Manchester.
Alan Long, 54, was chased by traffic police and a force aircraft in the east of the city last Friday.
The 50-minute police pursuit began after he failed to stop when requested by patrol officers at around 11pm. His bike hit a car in Stalybridge, G
reater Manchester, causing minor injuries to its 18-year-old driver.
Mr Long was also injured and was taken to Tameside General Hospital where he died several hours later.
The father-of-five, of Linden Road, Denton, was described as a loving husband by his wife Julie. He also had 13 grandchildren.
Mrs Long said: "Alan was a man who lived life to the full.
"He had a passion for motorcycles and will be missed a great deal by all his family and friends."
The Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating the crash. A spokesman said: "We understand there were a number of vehicles involved in the pursuit. We will be investigating whether officers were following the policies and procedures of the force and looking at why it went on for 50 minutes."
Greater Manchester Police has banned eight officers from driving.
Assistant Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said: "Eight police officers have had their driving authority withdrawn as the result of an investigation into a fatal collision on Friday 1 August 2008 where a motorcyclist died."
