Chester City boss Simon Davies is poised to complete his final signing ahead of the new league campaign.
The Chester City boss is confident of receiving international clearance for French trialist Damien Mozika who impressed for the Blues in Tuesday night's 3-1 friendly defeat against Carlisle United.

Mozika, 22, who played for AS Nancy in the French League last season, has agreed to sign a two-year deal.

Davies said: "Damien has come in, he's had a good trial period and he's played well in the games I've seen and we're pleased to have him at Chester and he's pleased to be here.

"I wouldn't take somebody on who I'd only seen in training because some players are only good in training.

"But Damien came in for us the other night and faced quality opposition in Carlisle and held his own and a bit more.

"I feel he's got more than enough for this division.

"He's a strong lad and manages to break up the play in midfield. I think he'll be a massive asset to us because he plays a simple game that nobody else seems to do.

"Damien can stop the opposition, he holds up play, and he just passes simple and lets the team play.

"He's from a culture that trains three times a day, so he won't have any problem training morning and afternoon and doing extra bits and bobs with us.

"Everything about him is geared up to working hard and playing well for us.

"Damien gives us size in terms of setpieces, both for and against, which had been a slight concern of mine because we have good footballers in our side but not a great deal of size.

"If we had an injury to Paul Linwood, Paul Butler, or John Murphy then we wouldn't be effective from set pieces."

Davies confirmed that Mark Hughes, Chris Holroyd, and Paul Rutherford's names had been circulated to League and Blue Square clubs.

He added: "When we start getting players in we only have a certain squad size and a certain budget to work with.

"If players are going to come in, players are also going to have to go the other way.

"Some players, including Mark (Hughes), Chris (Holroyd), and Paul (Rutherford) have found themselves down the pecking order, but there has been interest for them and they were happy to talk to other clubs.

"They are all good people to have around the place, but at the same time for their sake they have to look for first team football, and at the moment they won't be getting it here.

"We've got to be careful of the salary capping rules. It's a fine line and we're just about making it at the moment. We're under no pressure, but we're under certain restraints of getting people to go the other way if we make any signings."

Davies did admit that he had a concern about seeing his side leaking late goals in the 3-1 defeat against Carlisle United and a welcome problem of a selection headache in midfield.

He said: "We've got to make sure that for all our good play that we don't leak sloppy goals at the other end.

"We will address the problem, but it's not a major concern because we worked hard on that at the end of last season and we didn't concede a great deal.

"But I'm happy to have a selection headache in midfield. I've got 16 or 17 players in the squad who are capable of being in my starting eleven and there are obviously people in the squad who aren't going to be too happy about that.

"But that's my job and I'm not expecting everybody to be happy, but we have to get on.

"Those players who are left out will continue to keep up their fitness levels so that they can come in when a player is hit with injury or suspension."
